Meet

I try to meet other's needs. It's part of my make-up, but it's also a lasting effect of childhood abuse.

The belief that if I figure out and provide for someone else's (abuser's) needs, I will be safe, loved, accepted.

fulfill, satisfy, fill, measure up to, match (up to), conform to, come up to, comply with, answer -- "he does not meet the job's requirements"

What I'm learning is the only person I am responsible for in that way is me. God wants me to take care of me. And by taking care of me (creating safety, loving, and accepting) I will do His will and help other people in the process.

Meeting my needs is a new endeavor. There's a learning curve for me in this process. But I'm taking it one step at a time, and trusting in God to show me how to honor Him by honoring me.

  1. As someone who is prone to people pleasing, this message is so encouraging to me. I want to be more concerned with pleasing God, than pleasing other. Thank you for this reminder.

  2. I think we all need to re-think this thing - meeting our own needs will enable us to serve others in a healthier way. Thank you Melanie.

  3. Oh the power and necessity of self care! We in our cutlture tend to push this one way down on our priority lists - but if we take care of ourselves, we have more to give to the others around us --the better version of who we really are! Great post... great reminder!

  4. I am the same way, I struggle with being a people-pleaser, but God has really showed me how important it is to take care of myself and my relationship with Him as well and let the care for others be an outpouring of the time I have spent with Him and getting filled up myself. Great post, I am glad you are learning this valuable lesson.

  5. And I'm so glad you're taking the time to learn about YOU and to meet yourself! Self care is so important and we are SO worth it.
