The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY . . . September 21, 2015

Outside my window . . . it is mostly cloudy and 59 degrees. We've been having really nice temperatures this September. I hope it continues!

I am thinking . . . about what to do today -- crafting, laundry, and planning dinner for sure.

I am thankful . . . my weekend trip to St. Joseph Monastery in Whitesville, KY. I went for a silent meditative retreat through Dovehouse Ministries. As is always the case, the weekend brought refreshment, rest, and deep relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

In the kitchen . . . no cooking all weekend, so it's time to get back in gear and figure something out.

I am creating . . . a poncho for me. When I picked up crocheting again some 7 years ago, one of the first things I wanted to make was a poncho. I'm finally getting around to it!

I am going . . . to help my bestie look over some items for a yard sale and then we are coming back to my house to work on crafting for Presents with a Purpose and just for fun.

I am wondering . . . how to keep the calm and focus from the weekend going in my daily life here at home.

I am reading . . . Marnie by Winston Graham. The novel that the Hitchcock film is based on.

Also, The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton. I saw a documentary last week about Merton that really galvanized my desire to learn more about him.

I am looking forward to . . . a long weekend in Chicago to celebrate DH's 25 years of service with his firm. I haven't been to Chicago since 1985!

I am hearing . . . someone mowing the lawn and the dog wandering around the house.

Around the house . . . things are looking quite nice. The boys did a good job of keeping things neat while I was away.

I am praying . . . God's peace to dwell in my heart and for Jesus to stand with me in adversity.

One of my favorite things . . . is having things look nice. DH cleaned the carport and put a roof on the deck while I was gone this weekend. What a nice surprise when I pulled into the driveway.

A few plans for the rest of the week . . . mostly the usual things and then off to Chicago.

Here's a picture for thought I am sharing . . .

  1. Melanie: I hope you enjoy reading more about Thomas Merton. I had an ancestor who was a monk at the Abbey of Gethsemane when Merton was there. Such a beautiful path in the woods . . . Mary's Way. Have a good time i. Chicago!

  2. Merton was such an interesting person. Your retreat sounds wonderful, I'd love that! Love your poncho, such awesome colors!
Hope you have a great week :)

  3. We are thinking about the same things (laundry, dinner, crafting). I have never been to that part Kentucky, but I am from northern Kentucky. I'll have to make a trip someday.
