Blogger was down last Friday, so no FGF post. Saturday was dh's work picnic -- in the rain with temps in the low 60's. Saturday night dd and I went to see Young Frankenstein: The Musical. I must be getting old. Can they sing about stuff like that on stage? Sunday was worship with dh reading the Lord's Prayer in German. The boys went climbing after church. Dd and I had lunch at Panera and did the grocery shopping. A busy weekend that unfortunately degenerated into an unpleasant discussion of grades and study skills with ds.
Sometimes I just hate being a mom. There I said it. I love my kids and wouldn't trade them for the world, but I hate not knowing the best things to do for them and say to them. Ds is unhappy with the parameters we've set up to help him improve his grades and work ethic. I'm not happy when anyone in my house is unhappy. I know. That's not a very adult approach to life. I'm simplistic at heart. I just want everyone to be happy! lol! I have this theory that if everyone is happy, nothing bad can happen. Gee, I wonder where that came from?
So today I'm reminding myself that grades aren't everything. That ds is 17 which is a tough age to be. And I'm enjoying the reminders and comments I got from friends on Facebook last night when I posted my concerns. I especially liked this one from a long ago friend that I haven't seen in years (though I'd love to!) -- Dear, sweet Melanie, as a parent I know you think you should take the blame for the bad and give the credit for the good back to your children. But when they rob a bank and go on a multi-state high speed chase... well, you just gotta let it go and make them take the fall.
Thanks, Craig. That certainly put things in perspective for me!
Happy Monday : )

Thankful Thursday -- May 12, 2011
Psalm 27:10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.
A friend texted me this reference on Sunday night. It was a comfort. My mother and I have a tenuous relationship. All the lovely references to mothers preceding Mother's Day were taking a toll on me. I love my mother and she loves me, but we have some issues that we've never been able to address and resolve. I don't want that to be my legacy with my own daughter.
On Tuesday I watched Joyce Meyer's testimonial dvd with LBB. It's really good and I encourage you to watch it if you get the opportunity, whether you have abuse in your background or not. She really impressed on me that my God is all I have ever needed. He is all ways faithful, and that is enough.
All I have needed, Thy Hand
hath provided, Great is Thy
FAITHFULNESS
Lord Unto Me

The Simple Woman's Daybook -- May 10, 2011
FOR TODAY
Outside my window . . . it is sunny and 66 degrees. We're heading up to 90! I love (not) Nashville weather. One day it's a chilly 60 degrees and the next it's a muggy 90.
I am thankful for . . . my bff, Linda. She is helping me out today with some therapy homework.
From the learning rooms . . . ds wrote a paper last night on his "Pop". The paper is for American History. The assignment was to interview an older relative. Ds had such a good time talking with and hearing stories from my father-in-law.
From the kitchen . . . last night was salmon and shrimp with okra and succotash. Tonight is oven fried chicken, green beans and fresh corn.
I am wearing . . . my summer weight robe, a tank top and crocs.
I am creating . . . still haven't gotten more yarn. The Michael's closest to me was out! Almost done with the amigurumi, but I still haven't picked out eyes for her yet. Last night dd and I did some beading repair and creation. Much fun!
I am going . . . to work on organizing my recipes today.
I am reading . . . Higher Authority by Stephen White. Pretty good read so far, but I'm not having a lot of time for reading right now.
I am hoping . . . to have a good day.
I am hearing . . . quiet.
Around the house . . . spring cleaning is coming along nicely. Dd is going to finish up walls and baseboards today. In other news, dh is progressing nicely on the final woodworking project for the bathroom.
One of my favorite things . . . is waking up to the realization that I know what we're having for dinner and I have everything I need to make it.
A few plans for the rest of the week . . . meeting up with bff today, final Precepts class on Thursday, a few errands, a ballgame on Friday, and dh's work picnic on Saturday.
Here's a picture for thought I'm sharing . . .
Oh yeah! It's time for these lovely critters
around here. The noise, the crunch,
the terror of them flying into my face
when I least expect it!

Feel Good Friday -- May 6, 2011
This week has been a mixed bag!
I felt blah on Sunday.
Ds has been sick all week.
Dd had exams.
The weather has been oddly cool.
Oh, but wait,
This is supposed to be Feel GOOD Friday!
So let me start again.
Monday -- I uncovered the top of my crafting table.
Tuesday -- my bff, Linda, helped me deep clean my bedroom.
Wednesday -- I tried out a new (to me) tea shop.
Thursday -- I finally got a chance to test out my new green lounge chair.
Friday -- ds is well enough to go back to school. Dd is finished with exams. And I am going to my bff's house to help her.
Happy Feel Good Friday to all of you!

Thankful Thursday -- May 5, 2011
It's 39 degrees here this morning. May 5th -- The National Day of Prayer, Cinco de Mayo -- 39 degrees!?! Ah well, so I am thankful this morning for a warm house!
Ds has been sick all week. Coughing and congested, and generally feeling awful. We went to the doctor on Tuesday and they gave him medicine, so hopefully he is on the mend. So I am thankful for doctors and medicine and the money to pay for it all.
Dd had exams this week. She took her last one yesterday. She did pretty well she thinks. So I am thankful for that.
I had therapy yesterday, and it was a really rough day. As dh said, I'm peeling back more layers, so "yeah" and "ouch". But I am thankful to have some one to talk with, listen and offer advice; someone who reminds me of my value as a child of God.
Finally I am grateful to live in a place where I can acknowledge my God publicly everyday, not just on a single day set aside for it.
Blessings.
