{this moment}

A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY . . . January 8, 2013

Outside my window . . . still cold this morning, but we supposed to be warmer and mostly sunny. We are moving into another stretch of unseasonably warm weather. One of my pots of bulbs is pushing through the dirt.

I am thinking . . . what a relief it is to be feeling better. I am not 100% yet, but I'm much better than I was even a couple of days ago.

I am thankful . . . for a return to better health. I can't remember the last time I was so ill! I am so thankful to be able to care for my family again. I really missed mothering and wifeing.

In the kitchen . . . last night was Oven Fried Parmesan Chicken, corn pudding, and green beans. Yummy!

I am wearing . . . my flannel robe and slippers.

I am creating . . . still working on afghans although there has been very little crocheting while I was sick. Who knew it was so tiring! I repaired a rosary and finished another one yesterday.

I am going . . . to the Apple store today to find out what to do with a generation 3 iPod touch that doesn't work anymore. And to the Brighton store to look at a new bracelet. I got one for Christmas, but I think I want a different style since the one I got is going to be tight as I add charms and beads to it.

I am wondering . . . about returning to work on telling my story. I've not written about the abuse in quite awhile. I feel I need to write more.

I am reading . . . One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. I got this book for Christmas 2011 and am just now getting around to reading it.

I am looking forward to . . . continued improvement in my health and a return to my normal routines.

I am hearing . . . dd chatting and listening to her music . . . quietly.

Around the house . . . I am actually enjoying putting things back in order. Huge kudos to my dd who did an amazing job of taking care of things while I was out of commission.

I am pondering . . . whether of not I can hold on to this more positive outlook that seems to follow an illness. Everything seems better after having been so sick.

One of my favorite things . . . seeing the smile on my husband's face when he surprises me with flowers, like he did yesterday.

A few plans for the rest of the week . . . a trip to the mall this afternoon and hopefully Bible study tomorrow. That may be about all I can handle this week.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY . . . August 28, 2012

Outside my window . . . fluffy white clouds against a robin's egg blue sky. The cherry tree is dropping leaves in earnest now. Warm today, but autumn is definitely on the way.

I am thinking . . . keeping expectations in line helps in dealing with disappointments. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result.

I am thankful . . . for good friends, loving kids, and great husband.

In the kitchen . . . we are playing "let's clean out the refrigerator and freezer". It just seemed like a good time to put meals together out of what I have on hand, so each days is an adventure!

I am wearing . . . this gown from Vermont Country Store. I love cotton gowns more than anything in the world!

I am creating . . . afghans, afghans, and more afghans!

I am going . . . to have a day at home. Yoga here, Bible study, laundry, change the sheets, crochet. A nice stay at home day.

I am wondering . . . how God wants me to handle an extended family situation. I am listening and waiting.

I am reading . . . The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen. It may be too gritty for my taste right now.

I am looking forward to . . . a quiet day around the house.

I am hearing . . . the quiet hum of electronics and traffic, punctuated by the occasional bird.

Around the house . . . bit by bit I'm clearing things away and making a simpler place to be.

I am pondering . . . the parent/child relationship. My relationship with parents, and my relationship with my children.

One of my favorite things . . . is feeling that I have done what needs to be done, so I can sit down and read or watch tv or crochet.

A few plans for the rest of the week . . . things are calmer than last week. Nothing much planned. Back to Precepts on Thursday and then the Labor Day weekend.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY . . . February 14, 2012

Outside my window . . . it is gray and cloudy and wet and cold.

I am thinking . . . about Valentine's Day. I love my dh every day and honestly think it's a little silly to make such a big deal of it one day a year. A friend on mine who has never married calls it Single Awareness Day!

I am thankful . . . for my bestie. She's been available a lot lately to help me organize, crochet, and talk through the current struggles. She helps keep me centered when things begin to spiral.

In the kitchen . . . white chicken chili, even though I clearly posted yesterday that it would me roasted chicken. It's a woman's prerogative to change her mind.

I am wearing . . . still in my flannel robe and slippers. Trying to get motivated to get dressed for yoga class. It might be a yoga at home day : )

I am creating . . . a round rug to go beside my bed. My father-in-law asked if I was going to make it large enough for the bed to sit in the center of it!

I am going . . . . to have a homemaker kind of day today (I hope). Laundry and cleaning. It actually sounds rather appealing to me.

I am wondering . . . about this quote:
I am reading . . . Morgue Drawer Four by Jutta Profijt.
I am hoping . . . that things will improve in my mood and in a relationship I am struggling with right now. I sense the former is more likely than the latter.

I am looking forward to . . . a quiet day at home by myself. I will do my yoga, get the laundry going, put on some music, and pace myself at working around the house. After lunch I'll settle in to do some crocheting, reading, and writing.

I am hearing . . . the dogs gobbling down their breakfast. Two of them eat like vacuum cleaners, but the third is quite delicate, picking up a single piece of dry food at time.

Around the house . . . order is being maintained fairly well. This is quite an accomplishment given the stress we've had lately. I'm trying to take the organizing in little doses and give myself credit for every little thing.

I am pondering . . . . blogging. It makes me ridiculously happy to write these blogs, and it practically sends me into the stratosphere knowing that you are out there reading them!

One of my favorite things . . . is candles. I have always loved them, but felt it was a frivolous expenditure just for me. Recently my thoughts have changed on this. I have taken to burning 2 candles every day. One in the kitchen and one in my office. These are the two rooms I spend the most time in, and it just makes me happy to see (and smell) those happy little lights.

A few plans for the rest of the week . . . all the usual suspects: therapy, Bible study, date night and then it's the weekend again!

dh brought me these lovely flowers : )
