Right now I am . . .
:: seeing the rain and clouds lingered from overnight.
:: remembering the sun on my face as we rode the air-boat across the clear water.
:: smiling at the joy my husband found while we were in Florida.
:: marveling at the wonder, awe, and majesty of God's creations.
:: laughing as I remember finding this book in an antique store, especially the page headed "Everyday Errors in Room Arrangement" from 1933.
:: happy to be back home with my tree and both kids home from college.
:: looking forward to using my new sewing/crafting basket from SERRV.
:: relishing these oranges bought to support a local school. So delicious, and a nice reminder of Florida, and holidays from my childhood.
:: focusing on some good thoughts I've read/heard lately:
There's no reason to race. In fact, there's every reason not to. -- SouleMama

How's your week going? Anything particularly happy? Sometimes it's just the little things.

After a week of depression, sadness, anxiety, and generally bad feelings, yesterday was a turn around.
One of my favorite bloggers, Inner Pickle, commented about me on her blog and even posted a link! I was so excited when I realized that I was the "Melanie" to whom she was referring. What a neat feeling to be read by someone I love to read.
Wednesday is counseling day, and we worked some more on a very difficult episode of abuse. I came away from the session with some good realizations: I did fight back and I wasn't weak, I just did what I had to do and I used the best judgment I had at that moment. We also spent some time talking about the benefit of this blog. It has helped me so much to have a forum from which to share on a regular basis.
Finally, as I was preparing dinner, I jumped online again to see if I had any new comments, and I did. From another site that I've been silently stalking, Imperfect Prose, Emily liked what I had written on Easter Sunday.
Validation is something I crave, and over the years I have gotten very little. To have other people, strangers, comment positively on my inner most thoughts and feelings is amazingly empowering for me.
So today, as I said on Sunday, I find myself with gratitude in my heart. But unlike Sunday, I am also feeling joy. Another reminder of the continuing love and grace from my Father above, often bestowed by His children here on earth.
Blessings and peace.

So Monday Fiona at Inner Pickle asked us again what we were eating this coming week. I started not to join in, but then I figured why not.
You may notice some similarities if you read last week's menu -- that's because I didn't follow my schedule last week, so things turn up again this week.
Monday: Italian Crescent Casserole and a big tossed salad
Tuesday: Barbecued chicken fillets, roasted carrots and potatoes, and steamed broccoli
Wednesday: pizza at a church meeting
Thursday: Cooked mixed beans, cornbread, and sliced apples
Friday: date night
Saturday: Herbed salmon and shrimp skewers, succotash, and blueberry muffins
Sunday: Pork tenderloin with peach mango salsa, green beans, and baked sweet potatoes
We're off to a good start. Monday and Tuesday we've followed the list. Wednesday is definite, but we'll see what happens from there.
Over at inner pickle Fiona is talking about menus. I am usually an inveterate menu planner, but the past few weeks have been stressful, so there's been lots of scrounging. As I was reading her post this morning, I was working on my grocery list, so I'm participating in a limited way.
Here's what I'm planning for this week (things are still stressful around here and the weather is completely bizarre!):
Monday -- Roasted chicken, steamed broccoli, roasted potatoes and carrots
Tuesday -- White Chicken Chili, cornbread, sliced apples
Wednesday -- Hamburgers, baked beans, potato chips
Thursday -- Herbed salmon, butterfly shrimp, succotash, fruit salad
So how's your week shaping up?

FOR TODAY . . . October 11, 2011
Outside my window . . . it is partly cloudy and 62 degrees. We may get a little rain today, which would be nice.
I am thinking . . . about my plans for the day. I'm having lunch and doing a bit of shopping with my mother. She wants autumn decor and I need to pick up some more yarn for a project I'm working on.
I am thankful . . . for new blogging "friends". If you get a chance check out Inner Pickle. I really enjoy her posts.
From the learning rooms . . . ds got a good grade on his paper and project for English! Woo-hoo!
In the kitchen . . . there has been some baking (see yesterday's post). Still no pumpkin bread though : (
I am wearing . . . yoga clothes -- black leggings and an Old Navy t-shirt
I am creating . . . a new shawl from a very vague pattern. Many thanks to Emily at Bliss Yarns for helping me to decipher it.
I am going . . . take some swim lessons to improve my technique (which currently is not unlike that of a walrus!). I took a single class on Friday evening and did better than I had expected, so dh is signing me up for 4 more!
I am wondering . . . about comparisons. I know I shouldn't make comparisons between others and myself, but I seem to constantly fall back into the same old rut.
I am reading . . . Manner of Death by Stephen White.
I am hoping . . . to get more housework done this week than I did last week. That shouldn't be difficult as I did next to nothing last week! LOL!
I am looking forward to . . . another fun play date with my bff, Linda! We are getting together tomorrow for more talking and crocheting. How fun is that!?!
I am hearing . . . peace and quiet. One of my favorite ways to start the day.
Around the house . . . piles of extra supplies seem to be reproducing! Dh is renovating a condo and we have all the light fixtures and some of the plumbing supplies sitting around in various rooms!
I am pondering . . . . the long lasting effects of child abuse. I have progressed considerably over the years, but I am still amazed (and frankly, stunned) by how much the past still invades the present.
One of my favorite things . . . children's books. I have a collection of books I remember from my childhood as well as newer books I have collected over the years. (Maybe I'll do a post on children's lit one day!)
A few plans for the rest of the week . . . the usual I suppose. An appointment on Wednesday morning and then fun with Linda. A marriage ministry meeting Wednesday evening. Bible study on Thursday morning. More swimming and date night on Friday. The current plan is to go swimming and then go out for a salad and cheesecake!
Here is a picture for thought I am sharing . . .
